A common problem every entrepreneur runs into sooner or later is the problem of rationing their time among the numerous tasks they have to deal with every day. The tasks an entrepreneur has to go through each day are numerous – planning projects, attending meetings, running around – and this can leave you feeling like you didn’t achieve much at the end of the day.

If you are like this, then it is probably time for you to focus on your time management skills. Here are some tips to help you out on this:

1. Invest money on your time management skills

This is a very noteworthy thing to consider because even though you implement the seven tips mentioned in this guide, there is still the chance that you could do better with your time as far as management is concerned. Develop your time management skills by attending  training classes. Seminars and workshops would go a long way in developing you.

2. Bring Sanity to Your workspace

It’s a common mistake. We write our plans and notes on little scraps of paper and sooner or later our workspace gets cluttered with all those scraps. It can take a lot of time to go through the clutter when we are looking for a particular piece of paper where we jotted down some important information from the other day. The key to effective time management is managing your workspace so that you can easily and quickly retrieve important documents.

3. Avoid Micromanaging your employees too much

A lot of small business employees need to be taught how to accomplish stuff. This might not be a problem if they are recent employees learning the ropes, but if there is no sign of the employee gaining independence in time, you might have no choice but to let them go. Micro-managing such employees would be eating into your own time. And with time, your own efficiency would drop. This could be drastic for the business.

4. Try not to pay too much attention to the daily routines

Those little fires you have to put out every day might seem important. But if you put everything in perspective, you will discover that you may be spending too much time on things that may not be too relevant to the overall scheme of your business. Keep your eyes on the big picture, and focus your efforts on the grand plan of your business. Work on the core functions of your business and give reduced attention to other activities.

5. Define your social media strategy

This is decidedly important if you have an online presence for your business. If you do not have a clear-cut social media strategy, then you might find your business putting in more time than is necessary into social media.

6. Quit doing the same thing over and over

FAQs are called FAQs for a reason. If you find that your business has to deal with the same customer complaints and inquiries every day, it is wise to write a template or a FAQ for answering those questions so that your business is free to attend to more peculiar cases.

7. Learn to designate tasks

Most business owners easily fall into the idea of thinking they can do everything, even though they have employees for exactly that sort of thing! If you are feeling swamped with work, then delegate! Give the smaller tasks to competent members of your staff so you can devote your time to what is more important.

Following the above hints and tips is sure to free up your time measurably. A small business needs effective time management, especially as it grows. As your small business expands, it is easy for you to begin to feel pressed for time. Effective time management can help reduce this stress.
